Listen to South of Polaris

Following the release of their debut EP The Year After, South of Polaris have continued to explore new emotional landscapes through music. Their latest singles, Barbara’s Song and Where I’m Happy, shift the focus toward joy, connection, and the quiet moments that make life beautiful.

The duo are now working on their first album. One of the new songs, Becoming Ocean, won the 2026 Milkmaid Folk Songwriting Competition. It hasn’t been recorded in the studio yet, but you can watch a live performance on the Videos page or hear it at one of their live shows.

Whether you’re drawn to the raw honesty of grief or the gentle warmth of happiness, their music is an invitation to feel deeply and listen closely.

The Year After

South of Polaris "The Year After" cover artwork

The Year After, the debut EP from South of Polaris, emerged from the raw terrain of grief following the passing of Danii’s father. In the quiet aftermath, songwriting became both sanctuary and tribute, a way to navigate sorrow while honouring a life deeply cherished.

Each track traces a path through the emotional landscape of loss: from aching sadness and searing anger to moments of reflection, flickers of hope, and the quiet grace of gratitude. The music is deeply personal, yet universally resonant. An invitation to feel, to remember, and to heal.

Determined to preserve the intimacy and honesty of their live sound, Danii and Saúl took the reins of production themselves. Every note, every layer, every instrument was played and recorded by the duo, allowing the songs to unfold naturally: unfiltered, unforced, and true to their vision.

The Year After is not just a collection of songs. It’s a journey: tender, turbulent, and ultimately luminous.
