South of Polaris’ debut EP The Year After was written through the grieving process after the loss of Danii’s Dad. Songwriting became not only a form of catharsis but also a way to honour someone who was so important to the duo. The EP is a journey through utter sadness, anger, despair, reflection, hope and gratitude. The personal nature of the music meant that Danii and Saul wanted the recorded versions of the songs to feel authentic and true to their distinctive live style and so they produced each track themselves, playing all instruments and allowing each song to evolve organically.
